Living in Lake Worth Beach

Lake Worth changed its name to Lake Worth Beach after a narrow 2019 ballot vote, but the character underneath has not changed. Downtown runs along Lake Avenue, which holds some of South Florida's oldest commercial buildings, with galleries, sidewalk cafes, the Lake Worth Playhouse (founded in 1953) and the annual Street Painting Festival, where more than 600 artists work on the pavement.

Neighborhoods to know

  • College Park and Old Lucerne. Both are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with 1920s-era houses and bungalows. Northeast Lucerne is a local historic district.
  • Bryant Park. Along the Intracoastal Waterway, next to the municipal beach and home to the Midnight Sun Festival since 1983.
  • The beachfront. The Mediterranean Revival Lake Worth Casino and Beach Complex, and the William O. Lockhart Municipal Pier built in 1954.
  • Condos and cottages. A mix of small condominiums, duplexes and single-family homes, with options at several price levels.
Before you buy

What to know before you buy in Lake Worth Beach

The city operates its own municipal electric utility, so your power bill is set by the city rather than FPL. It is worth asking for actual recent bills on any property you consider, along with water and sewer charges, so you budget from real numbers.

Historic homes bring charm and costs. Houses from the 1920s and 30s may have older roofs, wiring, plumbing and single-pane windows, and those drive both repair budgets and insurance quotes. In designated historic districts, exterior changes need review. Ask Michael to line up inspections early and to price insurance before you commit.

Because the coast is close, check the flood zone and elevation for any property, particularly on the east side near the Intracoastal and the beach.
